This months choices are:-

The first choice is **'The Devil and the Dark Water' by Stuart Turton**

It's 1634 and Samuel Pipps, the world's greatest detective, is being transported from the Dutch East Indies to Amsterdam, where he is facing trial and execution for a crime he may, or may not, have committed. Travelling with him is his loyal bodyguard, Arent Hayes, who is determined to prove his friend innocent, while also on board are Sara Wessel, a noble woman with a secret, and her husband, the governor general of Batavia.

But no sooner is their ship out to sea than devilry begins to blight the voyage. A strange symbol appears on the sail. A dead leper stalks the decks. Livestock are slaughtered in the night. And then the passengers hear a terrible voice whispering to them in the darkness, promising them three unholy miracles. First: an impossible pursuit. Second: an impossible theft. Third: an impossible murder. Could a demon be responsible for their misfortunes?

With Pipps imprisoned, only Arent and Sara can solve a mystery that stretches back into their past and now threatens to sink the ship, killing everybody on board.

The second choice is **'The Bookbinder of Jericho' by Pip Williams**

Oxford, 1914.When the the young men are drawn away to fight, it is the women who must keep going. Twin sisters Peggy and Maude work in the bindery at Oxford University Press in Jericho. Peggy is intelligent, ambitious and dreams of studying - but is often reminded that her job is to bind the books, not read them. Maude, meanwhile, is extraordinary and vulnerable. She wants nothing more than what she has, and Peggy must watch over her.

When refugees arrive from devastated Belgium, it sends ripples through the community and through the sisters' lives. Peggy begins to see the possibility of another future: one where she can use her intellect and not just her hands. But as war and illness reshape her world, it is love, and the responsibility that comes with it, that threaten to hold her back...

Just choose the book you most like the sound of or read both of them if you have the time! We are very much looking forward to seeing you! **EXTRA!** We also have a new 'classic' book choice. This time it is **Tennessee Williams' 'A Streetcar named Desire'**. There is three months to read this one so we will discuss it when we meet in February.

The joy of Book Club is it opens you up to reading something different from your usual choice! We are a small, fun book club where you're invited to come along and join other fellow book lovers, like yourself, and enjoy some interesting discussions as well as share all our varied reading interests and experiences together, over a drink in a relaxed friendly environment.
