How would you like to take a moon lit stroll along a historic waterfront, view a spectacular Christmas Tree made out of over 400 lobster traps (they're clean, not stinky) that you can actually walk in, then relax and have a decadent drink and maybe some nibbley's in a beautiful bar decorated for the holidays and overlooking the harbor? Doesn't sound like fun at all lol, but if you are interested read on! And anytime you see **Bold** text, click on it for additional info.

Here are the details: On Monday, Dec 16th at 4:15 we'll meet at the **[Fisherman's Wives Memorial](https://gfwa.org/?page_id=51)**[ ](https://gfwa.org/?page_id=51)statue (PIN below) on Western Ave in Gloucester. There should be plenty of free parking on the road, and it will be just one evening after the full moon so it should be a wonderful night for a walk.

From there we'll walk down Western Ave along the **[Stacey Boulevard](https://www.scenicusa.net/040509.html)** while looking out across the harbor towards the **[Eastern Point Light House](http://www.newenglandlighthouses.net/eastern-point-lighthouse.html)**, 10 Pound Island and Stage Fort Park. We'll then walk across the **[Cut Bridge](https://www.cbsnews.com/boston/news/gloucester-cut-bridge-crazziness/)** to the famous[ ](https://www.beauporthotel.com/local-attractions/gloucester-fishermans-memorial)**[Fisherman At The Wheel](https://www.beauporthotel.com/local-attractions/gloucester-fishermans-memorial)**[ ](https://www.beauporthotel.com/local-attractions/gloucester-fishermans-memorial)statue.

Minutes later, at the end of the boulevard we'll walk across Pavilion Beach which will provide us a great view of the famous **[Greasy Pole](https://youtu.be/JjUA9d1tl0I?si=1g41F4fwAl9zBRbt)**. If anyone is adventurous enough you can try walking, just bring a towel and Dawn dish washing liquid to get the grease off! I dare anyone to try it!

Next to the beach is the **[Beauport Hotel](https://www.beauporthotel.com/)** where we can stop at if anyone needs a restroom break, and from past experience I know that means most of you. We'll return to the hotel later that evening for some spirits and munchies.

From there we'll walk around Fort Square which overlooks the harbor and was featured many times in the movie The Perfect Storm. We'll also pass the **[Great Pond Ice Company](https://capepondice.com/)** which was also in the movie.

Next it's St Peters Square, home to the St Peters Fiesta, and down Rogers St. past the working wharf's. If we're courageous enough maybe we'll head out on a few wharf's and try to get up close and watch the fishing boats being unloaded!

**[Salomon Jacobs Park](https://www.hmdb.org/m.asp?m=115472)**, also on the waterfront, is just a few minutes away and that's where the Lobster Trap Christmas Tree is, and it's often filled with artwork created by students from the local elementary schools.

We'll also walk onto the wharf by the Coast Guard station and see the lights illuminating Rocky Neck and East Gloucester, and just maybe a tall masted schooner will be docked there. Eric Clapton's former yacht the **[Blue Guitar](https://downeastboatforum.com/threads/blue-guitar.24448/)** is often tied up just across from the Coast Guard station.

While we're there lets visit the **[Fitz Henry Lane House](https://fitzhenrylaneonline.org/)** which is just steps away from the **[Lobster Trap Christmas Tree](https://www.facebook.com/lobstertraptree/)**.

Last year when we did this downtown shops were open late for holiday shoppers, however that's not the case this year, bummer..... So after spending some time around the Lobster Trap Tree and the Fitz Henry Lane House we'll head back to the Beauport Hotel for a spirit and who knows what else. Last year Hot Toddies seemed to be the drink of choice there. If the weather is nice enough the outside waterfront deck will be open.

I put 8:00 as a finish time but that's just a guess, but you'll never be more than a 25 minute walk from your car so you could always head back at anytime if need be if you want to leave early, or if you want to stay late and close the bar down.

This won't be a long walk, maybe 3.5 miles tops and it's all level. We will walk just a bit on a beach, and we may walk on a few rickety, creaky and bouncy old docks teetering sky high above the deep, cold, dark and sea creature infested water. Nothing to fear........

And I've been known to take some "side adventures" on these trips, so who knows where else we'll end up!
