RTPC Nature and Wildlife Walkabout - Hagerman Wildlife Refuge
Details
Fall means hopefully colorful foliage and snow geese at Hagerman Wildlife Refuge.
For those that want to carpool we will meet at the Dart parking lot in Rowlett at 7:45 am (don't forget you just got an extra hour, so save for this event). We will depart at 8:00 for the refuge hoping to time our arrival for about 9:00 - 9:15 at the Visitor Center. We can check in there to see if there are any advisories or recommendations from the staff. Me, I will snare a lapel pin for my collection.
For those that want to meet us there, the address is: 465 Refuge Rd, Sherman, TX 75092 - (903) 786-2826
There are a host of opportunities at the refuge for hiking (light or moderate) and auto-touring. It is okay to pull over along the roads if you find your spot.
At 11:30 we will meet up at the Visitor Center to head to Mom's Cafe in Pottsboro (about a 10 minute drive) for lunch.
After lunch we can return to the refuge for more exploring and photography.
Bring your telephoto lenses for the wildlife, your wide angle lenses for the landscapes and maybe something for macro photography (depending upon your interests).
Also be prepared for being a bit out in the woods, so to speak. Wear long sleeved shirts, jackets, etc. and long pants. It could be a bit muddy in places, so footwear should be ready to bond with nature. I recommend a good pair of hiking shoes. Waterproof, if you have them. And bug repellant could come in handy as well. I pretty much use my telephoto lens as binoculars, but if you like bring yours for scouting the horizon.
If you have any questions, comment below. If time is of the essence, feel free to call me at 214-668-3408.
Finally, if you are so inclined, you can join a Facebook Group called Friends of Hagerman NWR Nature Photography Group for some inspiration or advance knowledge about our destination.
