From stone tools to artificial intelligence, humans have been creating the technologies that shape our world for millennia. Many of those technologies have helped us to better understand our complex universe, cure devastating diseases, and spark generative collective action. But all of those benefits come with costs. What’s more, some of us now have (relatively) easy access to an array of technologies that could pose an existential threat to humanity and our planet.
So, how has humanity's relationship with technology evolved? How is that relationship changing us? What kinds of technology should we be creating? In what spirit? And for whom?
This conversation will be free-form, which means it might meander into adjacent topics. All of our meetups will be in public locations like coffee shops or parks (if weather permits). Just look for a table with a Complexity & Coffee sign. No need to prepare or bring anything but your curiosity and an open mind.
