What we’re about

This group is about freedom of expression. I want you to give yourself permission as an adult to reconnect with the kid inside you to create, play, let go of all the adulting seriousness, and allow yourself to have fun. Your artistic level does not matter, this is more about you creating from the heart than following any specific rules, styles, or guidelines for your art creation. ALL ARE WELCOME. <3

My passion for chalk art at the beach and parks started when my daughter was a toddler. As I allowed myself to let go and draw and play with her, I noticed other parents around me allowing themselves to let go and be big kids too, and play with their kids in new, fun, energizing ways, expressing themselves through drawing. Giving myself permission to let go and have fun, opened a space for others to give themselves permission to let go and have fun too. That's the kind of inclusive environment I want you to feel welcomed into. Whether you're just curious about chalk art, you're a beginning artist, or a seasoned art creator, this group is for you.

This group is open to everyone, all ages are welcome. Bring your kids, bring your spouse, bring your friends, bring your bestie, bring your grandkids, bring your nieces and nephews, and absolutely bring some sidewalk chalk art! ;) (You can purchase some chalk for sidewalk art at Walmart, the 99-cent store, Target, and Michaels, as well as other stores).

This is an opportunity for artists of all skill levels to come together, be accepted just as you are, have fun, make new friends, share fun memories, create together & absolutely take photos of your art and your new friends (with their permission of course).

Some of my favorite chalk art creations at the beaches have been when others in the community have joined in to add to huge people-sized sidewalk art murals. That love of creating something together, being playful, laughing, enjoying fresh air, sunshine, meeting new people, and the freedom of expression is what inspired me to create this group.

Things to bring for our meet-ups: sidewalk chalk, water bottles to stay hydrated, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat if you like, snacks if you want to eat something, a towel, mat, or blanket to have your knees on to protect yourself from being on bare concrete or to sit on, whatever you feel the most comfortable with. I also highly suggest bringing baby wipes, or something to clean your clothes and hands with from the chalk. Chalk is SUPER fun, and it can also be quite messy. ;) I will have some supplies with me, but depending on how big our group grows, I want to ensure you bring what you need also to have fun, participate, and really enjoy yourself.

My daughter is passionate about art too and is enjoying exploring her skill sets this year with anime and do-it-yourself crafts she is inspired by on TikTok. She is excited to be my co-leader of this group and teach anyone who is interested in different styles of drawing. If you are an art teacher, art instructor, or volunteer artist, please let me know if you would be interested in leading any of the group meets, or teaching us different styles of drawing. I will have us meet at different locations to allow a variety of San Diegans and travelers alike to connect together. Both my daughter and I look forward to meeting you soon!

I am expanding our group to include local hikes like Eagle Rock, Mt. Woodson's- Potato Chip Rock, and other events that have been on my bucket list for a while. I'm looking forward to our Meetup members enjoying fun events like this as well as our chalk art events & creations. πŸ˜πŸ˜‰πŸ‘ŒπŸ’ͺπŸ™ŒπŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰
