Thanksgiving Morning Presidio Overlooks and Vistas Hike
Details
The Thanksgiving Hike in the Presidio is one of my favorite City Steps traditions.
If you're not doing all the cooking, why not start your Thanksgiving by enjoying the beautiful views from the overlook points in the Presidio? Being outside in nature will remind us that we have much to be grateful for (and the people cooking will be glad to have us out of the way). What a fun way to work up an appetite for that Thanksgiving Tofurkey!
On this walk we'll visit several vista points throughout the Presidio, including the Lobos Valley Overlook, Cemetery Overlook, Inspiration Point, The Golden Gate Overlook, Immigration Point, and the Pacific Overlook. Our route will take us along The Juan Batista Trail, The California Coastal Trail, The Bay Area Ridge Trail, The Mountain Lake Trail, The Ecology Trail and The Park Trail, so we'll get to see much of this great national park in our own backyard.
WE START WALKING AT 10:00 AM PROMPTLY. We'll meet in the grassy area just inside the 14th Avenue Gate (at Lake). There are public parking lots just in front or to the left-they're free on holidays. Bus #1 (California) and #28 (19th Avenue), each stop about a block away at California and Park Presidio. The #44 O'Shaughnessy stops a few blocks away at 6th and California. BUSES WILL BE ON A SUNDAY SCHEDULE- please plan accordingly. Give yourself time to get there and check in. There is a restroom about 2 blocks away at Mountain Lake Park (Lake and Funston). Plan on walking about 3 hours through a mostly moderate route with some uphills, downhills and one big stairway. We'll stop for a few minutes at each vista point. There will be one restroom break, about 1/2 of the way through, near Fort Scott.
There will be multiple photo opportunities on this walk- please bring your camera. Dress for the weather. Bring water and hand sanitizer. We won't be stopping for a snack break (you'll be having a big meal later!)
ATTENDANCE POLICY--
No showing and late cancelling (considered the same as a no show) prevents people on the waiting list from joining us. Don't do it. City Steppers who no-show or place hold can be removed from the group without warning. This walk is only available to City Steps members.
DOGGIE GUEST RULES--
Dogs are always welcome on my walks, and dogs love the Presidio. The Presidio occasionally closes some sections to dogs because of coyotes. We won't be able to re-route the walk to accommodate this. Dogs must remain on leash, be friendly, and not disruptive.
LIABILITY & SAFETY--
You are responsible for your own safety on all City Steps walks. Your yes RSVP confirms that you have read and agree to the Liability Waiver that can be found at the bottom of every Meetup.com page.
We walk in a mist or drizzle, but rain cancels.
