What we’re about

What is the purpose of this group?
This group is for people who are interested in practicing forest bathing, or forest therapy, in the San Francisco area. It is also a place to build a community of people interested in this unique way of engaging with the forest.

What is forest bathing?
Forest bathing, or Shinrin-yoku, is a Japanese practice that involves immersing yourself in the forest atmosphere. It's about connecting with nature through your senses, rather than simply hiking or exercising.

Why join our meetup?
Studies show that when people get outside and into the forest their blood pressure drops and stress hormones dissipate. Forest bathing has been showing to improve sleep quality, mood, and the ability to focus. The practice of forest bathing in the United States also incorporates working on our relationships with nature, ourselves, and with other people. In addition to connecting with nature, our meetups offer a wonderful opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals. Building meaningful relationships is essential for our mental and emotional health.

What to expect:
Our meetups typically involve a 2 hour leisurely walk through a local forest or park where I will give you a series of invitations to engage with the forest. We call them invitations for a specific reason. They are not exercises or activities, and there is no right or wrong way to do them. There is just your way, and you being here to engage in the way that is right for you. We will also sit together and share following the invitations, if you would like.
