San Francisco Ukulele Rebellion!

THIS IS AN IN-PERSON MEETUP!
As we did in the before days, we'll play from The Daily Ukulele (the Yellow Book) and The Daily Ukulele Leap Year Edition (the Blue Book). Please bring your instrument(s), a floor or table music stand, your singing voices, and your fabulous ukulele spirit!

We'll play music from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm, with a short intermission.

We'll go around the room so that everyone can pick songs to play. If you pick a song, you will be encouraged (but not required) to lead it. If you'd like to let the group know in advance which songs you plan to select, please post the songs you choose in the comments, and we'll play one of those songs each time it's your turn to pick a song. You can also brings songs to share that are not in the Yellow Book or the Blue Book; just please bring enough copies of the sheet music to share.

A voluntary donation of $5 to defray Meetup website costs and to tip our hosts is appreciated. San Francisco Ukulele Rebellion logo kazoos will be available for purchase.

I do not disclose the location of our in-person jams on the Meetup website. While the date and time of these in-person meetups will still be posted here, I'll be notifying people of the location of these meetups using an email distribution list. COVID UPDATE: San Francisco, like the rest of the country, experienced a Covid-19 summer surge, and flu season, when Covid cases historically increase, will be upon us by November. Several people I know who live in the Bay Area have tested positive for Covid recently. I think it's still safe for us to meet, but I strongly encourage people to observe social distancing and other measures, like masking, that have been shown to inhibit the spread of Covid. For the safety of others in the group, please don't attend this meetup if you are not feeling well or if you are experiencing Covid-like symptoms. I won't require people to test for Covid, but I strongly encourage you to test for Covid on Saturday afternoon. From what I understand, most of the people I know who have gotten Covid recently got it from someone who didn't even know they had it at the time of exposure. Thank you in advance for your thoughtfulness.

Please join us for our Eleventh Annual Holiday Caroling and Kazoo Giveaway Meetup on the Embarcadero! For several years before the COVID-19 pandemic, we've had a tradition of gathering at the Embarcadero to sing holiday songs, spread holiday cheer, and give away kazoos so that passersby can play along with us. After two missed years caused by the pandemic, we resumed that tradition in 2022.

If you print this book and use both sides of each page, please be mindful of two-page songs and print those songs so that you can see both pages at once.

If you printed out an earlier version of this book, you may not need to print every page. Depending on your version, you may only have to substitute a few pages, including the table of contents, which is a new feature for this year's book. Please compare your version to the current version to determine which pages you will need to replace.

Please bring this songbook with you. Please also bring your acoustic instrument(s) and a music stand. Please also bring clothing for changeable weather -- if the sun is out, we'll be in the sun and it could be warm, but it can get pretty cold there if the sun is obscured and when the wind picks up in the afternoon.

THIS IS AN IN-PERSON EVENT!

LOCATION: If the weather is nice, we'll meet at Pier 7, just south (toward the Ferry Building) of the intersection of Embarcadero and Broadway. If the weather is wet or misty, we'll meet at the first archway north of the main entrance to Pier 1. Both locations are a short walk from the Ferry Building and public transportation. STEADY RAIN OR DOWNPOUR POSTPONES THIS EVENT. (Fingers crossed for good weather! I'll provide updates as the date gets closer.)

PLEASE NOTE: THE MAP THAT MEETUP HAS PROVIDED FOR THIS EVENT IS WRONG, AS IT INDICATES THAT WE'RE MEETING SOMEWHERE NEAR ORACLE PARK, WHICH IS FAR AWAY FROM PIER 7. I don't know why Meetup does this with this location. Odd-numbered piers (including Pier 7) are NORTH of the Ferry Building, and Oracle Park is 1.5 miles SOUTH of the Ferry Building, near Pier 40.

In 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2022, we gave away almost 100 kazoos! In 2018, we raised over $300 to help those affected by the Camp Fire. In 2022 and 2023, we collected money for charities that serve San Francisco's unhoused population. This year we will again give away kazoos and we'll donate any money we receive to charity.
