What we’re about
Last updated: 5/17/2021
This is a monthly social bridge game. We meet once per month at the home of one of the organizers (San Jose or Sunnyvale - 94087). We generally set up two to four tables depending on how many people sign up. We try to set up tables based on level of play, usually a table for beginners and one or more tables for intermediate/advanced. We play contract “rubber” bridge; not duplicate play, though some players may have experience playing duplicate in other venues.
If you know the game of bridge, it is a game where you need four people to play the game. The four people are paired up - so they play together - two against two. This is why it becomes really important for us to have the exact right number of players each month - to ensure everybody can play and every table has four players. The tables fill up quickly, but we often have last minute cancellations because, well, life happens. So, don't sign up for a game if you can't really make it and do sign up for the waiting list even if the tables are full in case somebody cancels. If you aren't sure and just want to come and watch, please feel free to drop in to the game, but don't sign up unless you really want to play.
Prior to the advent of COVID-19 and its accompanying gathering restrictions in Santa Clara County, games were hosted at a home in San Jose. Our hosts and organizer have temporarily transferred organizing during their unavailability to Cindy (Organizer), Kelly and Craig (Assistant Organizers).
As COVID-19 restrictions are beginning to ease now while we are in the Yellow Tier, we plan to begin offering limited in-person events in the San Jose area consistent with local and CDC guidelines. These initial events will be on the 2nd Saturday of each month beginning June 2021. Watch for these events to be listed!
If you are interested in on-line options for practice or play, we recommend a few options. You can play free; with others or against the computer. Either way, it is a fun way to get practice bidding and playing.
