San Antonio Hill Country Hikers

We'll meet at the parking area of the Bauer Unit - please proceed through the gate off of Acker Road, use the gate code on the gate code box and go to the parking area.

We will hit the trail by 8:10 am and do a MODERATELY paced hike (around 3miles/hr) for about 8 miles.

Directions: From I10W - take exit 550 Ralph Fair Rd (FM3351), go about 15 miles and turn right on Edge Falls Road. Continue for 2.4 miles and turn right on Acker Road. Go 2.2 miles to entrance. Entrance is gated - open gate and drive to parking area.

From 281 you can take County Rd 71/Spring Branch Rd . It is 7.5 miles once you turn onto CR71. There may be closed gates on this route but you can just open and drive through. Be sure to close behind you. Or take 46W from 281 and then north on 3351.

The Bauer Unit is part of Guadalupe River State Park but has it's own entrance on the north side of the river.

• YOU are responsible for assessing your own fitness level and to have an exit plan if you cannot keep up with the group
• This is NOT a beginner hike, there is some rough and sometimes slippery terrain.

We meet at 6:15 and will take off promptly at 6:30. Set your own pace and mileage on this hike. If you go at a slower pace, I suggest you hike down to Pecan St. and back - that will give you 3 miles. Want a little more distance at a faster pace? Go down to Houston St and back, 3.5 miles. Everyone will meet up back at the start.

There is free parking for the first two hours at the Koehler garage & the Pearl Brewery West Parking Lot. Street parking on Grayson that’s metered is free after 6pm.

We will do a 5 mile hike at Phil Hardberger Park starting at the Blanco entrance by the dog park. The parking lot entrance is just past Dutch Bros Coffee / CVS on Blanco just north of Wurzbach Pkwy.

We'll go over the land bridge to the west side of the park and loop back.

The terrain is mostly flat with a few areas of uneven surfaces, expect a 3 mile/hr pace.

Let's take a walk through the beautiful Olmos Park subdivision. They go all out for the holidays. Many of the decorations are professionally done. We will start meeting at 6:15 and leave promptly at 6:30. We will walk approximately 4 miles at a medium pace (15 minute mile).

This area is filled with unique older homes and fantastic landscaping. The neighborhood has very little traffic. The route will have many twists and turns so it is important to stay with the group.

Get your singing voice ready for carols and feel welcome to bring an adult beverage in a concealed container. A light source is reccommended.

We will be heading into the protected area of the park that is only open Sept - Feb.

We will stop for a lunch break, so pack a snack!

This is NOT a beginner hike, there is some rough and sometimes slippery terrain.

Please bring enough water for a 6 hour hike!!
