The San Antonio Nature Hounds

Join the Nature Hounds for a walk along a paved, mostly shaded trail of one of the best parks in the city. Planning for a 3 mile, moderate pace walk depending on who attends and of course the heat/humidity.

Let's meet at Al Becken Pavilion which you can find by entering through the main entrance on Jones Maltsberger. Proceed to the first stop sign and at a three-way stop, turn right. Go straight and you will see the Pavilion, Restrooms and Parking coming up on the left side.

Bring plenty of water for yourself and your dogs, poo bags, and only non-retractable leashes 6 feet or shorter, please.

We will walk the Castroville Regional Park before proceeding to walk the neighborhood. We will use the Historic Walking tour to view some of the old houses.

The route is flat with little shade. It is stroller friendly, but there are no sidewalks. However, this is a quiet neighborhood with very little traffic.

Eisenhower Park is one of San Antonio's favorite hiking parks. It offers trails at various difficulty levels. However, we will stick to the Cedar Flats Trail (a paved trail) on the way up, and the Cedar Flats Trail on the way down.

Our route will be about 1.6 miles and will take us just under an hour to complete. Although some of the route is somewhat steep, it is an easily manageable route for most people and dogs, and we have had great walks here in the past.

Walk Traffic: Low. No bikes are allowed in this park

Goal: Tower at the end of the Cedar Flats Trail, which provides a great view of San Antonio.

Leash Rules: All dogs should be on a leash. All leashes should be 6 feet or shorter.

The world-famous San Antonio River Walk becomes a Christmas Wonderland during the Holiday Season! Come join the San Antonio Nature Hounds as we venture from the King Williams area and walk along the River Walk, enjoying the sights and sounds of Christmas!

Places you can Park:

1. Along King William St and E Johnson St.
2. Across Bridge on W. Johnson St and City Street. You can use 103 W Johnson St. as a reference.
3. We will meet at the corner of E. Johnson St and King Williams street.

(This walk will feature "The King Williams" area" and The Christmas Lights of the San Antonio Nature Walk)

Join the nature Hounds as we celebrate our 17th anniversary! We'll have a few walks during the day, followed by a potluck. And if you've never been to a Nature Hound potluck... well... let's just say come hungry; our members never disappoint! We're looking forward to see what you have for us.

The pavilion has electricity if you need to plug something in and will be lit for the evening. If you have a folding table, however, we could totally use some. There are few in the area. You might want to bring a folding chair too.

SANH will provide burgers (meat and vegan) and hotdogs. But we appreciate if members provide the buns, cheese, fixins and toppings.

HOW TO FIND Pavilion #3:
If entering through Jones Maltsberger:
• Enter park, go past first pavilion/parking lot, which is on the left
• The road will end at a stop sign. Go LEFT
• Continue down the road, you'll see soccer fields on your right.
• At the next stop sign, you'll see parking on both the left and right
Pavilion#3 is on left side

• If entering from Starcrest:
• Enter park and continue down the road making no turns.
• You'll pass the dog park and continue on, past a few stop signs.
• The road will curve to the left. Right after that curve you'll get to stop sign and Pavilion#3 will be to your right
