Use of the Spiral as a Compositional Tool

Details

I realize that I am overly reliant on the rule of thirds for composing photographs. For one thing, most cameras can be set to show the rule of thirds grid in the viewfinder. It is also the composition guideline we are introduced to starting out.

However, in nature, curves and spirals are everywhere. It has been said that our brains are hard-wired to recognize this pattern. Take a look at the links below and look for other resources YOU find that further illuminate the use of spirals for our discussion. Submit two photos that are composed with the Golden Spiral in mind. I only realized recently that a spiral overlay is available in Lightroom, which we'll use in our discussion.

Submit your images no later than Tuesday, November 19th, to David Alderman ([email protected]), minimum pixel size 1024x768, jpg, 72 dpi. Please respect David's time and make sure you submit on time. Title images with your first name and image name and please attach (as a file)to your email.
