What we’re about
Santa Fe Young Meditators is a meditation, mindfulness and social group for those who identify in some way as "young" - 20s, 30s, & 40s but all are welcome. The idea of focusing on age is not meant to be exclusionary, but rather to promote community, connection and inspiration among an age group that is often in the minority at many meditation centers.
The group is a way to connect, share space, presence, and practice with others who are interested in meditation and mindfulness, community and social engagement, regardless of what tradition you may practice in.
Our practice centers on a biweekly "social meditation" where we explore relating with each other in a way that is more mindful and more vulnerable. The evening starts with a silent seated meditation with instruction available for any who are new to meditation or would like a refresher. Then we practice social meditation, an authentic relating circle where we are encouraged to explore the present moment in community and share/listen from our heart-mind. Introverts welcome!
Our weekly practice is often followed by continued socializing at a nearby restaurant, TBD. We plan to hold potlucks, campouts, and other group activities outside the weekly schedule to satisfy our collective desire for mindful relaxation and adventure. New members are welcome to join us at any of these events!
All formal meditations events are held at the Santa Fe Community Yoga Center in Santa Fe, unless otherwise noted.
All practices have a suggested donation of $5-$10, no one turned away for lack of funds.
Community Ground Rules
- Always treat one another with respect for personal space, dignity, stated boundaries, and privacy.
- Do not insult, judge, diminish, threaten, or be dismissive towards others.
- Respect others’ confidentiality. What is said in group stays in group. This means refraining from gossip and discussions of material from within the group and also respecting others' wishes to stop conversations or discontinue a discussion topic.
- Although we do our best to facilitate and intervene during a group event, the organizers are ultimately not responsible for anyone else's behavior.
- Group facilitators will do their best to maintain a welcoming and safe community but are not responsible for anything that happens outside of our group events.
- If you feel that someone has broken any of these agreements, please let the organizer know.
- If you fail to adhere to any of these agreements you may be removed from the group and prohibited from attending our events at the discretion of the organizers.
