Difficulty level: Difficult
Length: 2 miles

SEE THE PHOTO FOR THE MAP OF WHERE TO PARK. Meet at the Rocky Peak parking lot on Santa Susana Pass Road. The Rocky Peak parking lot is south of the 118 at the Rocky Peak exit. Do not park in the lot north of the 118 (marked by the red arrow; you'll be on the wrong side of the freeway). Ignore the address Meetup provides for this event.

The trail leading down to Spahn Ranch is narrow and steep. Recommend trekking poles or a walking stick for balance at awkward spots.

Wear sunscreen and long pants because the brush is thick and sticky. A light jacket or long-sleeved shirt is also recommended. Although we try to avoid poison oak, sometimes it is encountered. Wear sturdy hiking boots. A walking stick is preferred by some hikers. Bring plenty of water. A hat is also recommended.

Rain, red flag warnings, and extreme heat of 90 degrees cancels.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome as long as they are on leash. Please remember to bring enough water for your four-legged friend. All minors must be accompanied by an adult. This hike is appropriate for minors ages 12 years and older.

How to get to the Rocky Peak parking lot: Coming from the San Fernando Valley, take the 118 to the Rocky Peak exit, turn left and cross the freeway to Santa Susana Pass Road. Immediately look for parking. From Simi Valley, take the 118 to the Rocky Peak exit, turn right and cross the freeway to Santa Susana Pass Road. Immediately look for parking. From Lake Manor, take Box Canyon towards Santa Susana Pass Road. At Santa Susana Pass Road turn right. When you see the 118 entrance at Rocky Peak, park on the right side of the road. From Chatsworth take Topanga Canyon north to Santa Susana Pass Road and turn left. When you reach the Rocky Peak entrance to the 118 freeway, park on the left side of the road.

If the parking lot is full, take Santa Susana Pass Road east and park on the south side of the road.

Temperatures exceeding 90 degrees, rain, or red flag warnings cancel the hike.
