First winter event of this season!!

Details of this event are weather-dependent. Here is what I’m thinking:

* if there’s enough snow on the ground, this will be a ski event, quite possibly out of town. Get your skis ready! If you have not skied before this is not the event for you as we will be skiing some tricky trails, most likely in Prince Albert or Eb’s. See local ski event I’m planning for Dec. 14 for beginner/novice level.

* if there isn’t enough snow for skiing, this will be a snowshoe or hike, probably in Saskatoon.

Regardless, as I’m hoping for a ski day out of town I’m making this an all-day event so if you sign up assume you’ll be out all day.

More details to come as we near the date and the weather becomes clearer.

Dress according to the season:
* feet, hands and head need to stay warm so buy proper socks, gloves and toques
* wear wool as a first 2 layers: it wicks out sweat and keeps you warm
* invest in a warm jacket and good ski pants (if unsure what this means, message me or leave a comment on event page)

After the event: as always, warm up somehwere, preferably with a coffee or a tea and food!

Let's ski 2-3 loops @ Holiday Park, 7-10kms on the classic ski trails.

Meet at the Holiday Golf course parking lot (see map pin). Access location via Ave U South.

Outside loop is 3.5 kms double classic. Hill loop is around 6kms. I'd like to do one of each.

Dress appropriately:
* feet, hands, and head are key: get some good socks, gloves, and toque
* wear wool, not cotton: wool wicks out sweat, cotton does not and leavse you feeling wet and cold
* dress in (wool) layers
* invest in a good winter jacket and ski pants; tight is better than big, flappy, and bulky

This is a beginner-friendly event. This means that someone will be there to give you tips on how to ski. HOWEVER, this does not cancel out the need for lessons. If you would like to learn how to ski I encourage you to enrol in ski lessons - the help will be worth the cost.

After the ski we’ll find a place to warm up with some coffee and food.

Manitou Beach is about 1h20min from Saskatoon. We are connecting 3 different trails around and through the village, to make 10km. I'm thinking it's probably going to be a hike through a little snow. Traction devices like Yaktraks or Kahtoola microspikes could be useful. However if there's a lot of snow it will be a snowshoe. I will update this closer to the date.

Bring snacks and a lunch to eat on the trail. Hot drink in a thermos is great. Bring warm layers to put on at rest stops. Hand warmers are useful. Some trails are sheltered, and some are open to the wind. It's gonna be winter soon. Remember winter?

We will be returning to the cars before we hit the pool so no need to carry your swimming gear on the hike. The hot springs pool is in Manitou Beach Resort Hotel. There are several different areas in the pool, most are shallow, and you don’t need to know how to swim. Pool costs $20 if you bring your own towel. And of course, don’t forget your swim suit. Flips flops are useful but not necessary. We will spend a couple of hours there. There’s a snack bar next to the pool. Bring a water bottle to the pool, there is a water fountain. And sitting in the hot pool makes you thirsty.

We’ll meet at 8:00am at the Tim Horton’s(Clarence Ave) in Stonebridge and carpool. I aim to be heading home by 4:30pm. If the weather is really bad, I'll do a local alternative.
