LOWER SCHOLL CANYON STROLL, GLENDALE
Details
LET'S SQUEEZE IN A QUICKIE ON THIS FIVE-SATURDAY MONTH. This may not be recorded as the Most Memorable route evah in your hiking scrapbook. But without a doubt this does qualify as the Speediest, Somewhat-Centrally Located, Off-Freeway Convenient, Friendly Fire Road Hike with Pretty Views at our fingertips during the always way-too-busy holiday prime weekend time.
The route is in the rolling hills of Valle Vista, Linda Vista and Radio Lateral in Eastern Glendale. It’s just south of the Scholl Canyon landfill with its lovely golf course and tennis courts.
This fun and fast hike has a similar feel to Kagel Canyon and various routes in the Verdugos, as it’s mostly fire road, with great urban views including the Eagle Rock, as well as the artful freeway overpasses of the 134/210 and the 2.
You barely have to look down to watch your steps on this stroll. It’s two long, roller coaster-y sections of (out and back) fire road connected by a short section of brushy single track. It’ll be a welcome short getaway from holiday prep. . . a time to gab, look up, out and around, and be attentive to Nature’s clues and beauty.
Before getting back to your list and checking it twice.

DIRECTIONS
Scholl Canyon (just north of our trailhead) is East of the Glendale/2 Fwy, North of the 134 and west of the 210 in Glendale.
For GPS purposes, the house next to the trailhead is at 2800 Glenoaks Canyon Drive (just SW of the corner with E. Glenoaks Blvd.) in Glendale, CA.
We'll walk up the trail a bit to warm up to give the residents some peace. If you arrive late, walk about a half-mile up the trail behind the yellow gate to a wide spot on the trail with two trees (see photo).
