What we’re about

We are Saturday Morning Hikes and Coffee. We get together almost every Saturday morning to go on a hike, somewhere in DC, Maryland, or Virginia. We hike all year round. Optionally we meet afterwards at a coffee and tea place. We encourage folks to come out on our hikes, to have a good time, get to know others in the group, and to stay in shape.

Hikers of all levels are welcome as long as you can maintain a walking speed of the average hiker, which is about 2.5 miles per hour on a flat smooth surface.

We do not leave hikers behind. We are not going to abandon you in the middle of the woods. This means we periodically slow down or stop to allow some of our slower hikers to catch up to the group.

We cannot guarantee any particular end time for any hike. If you have an important event to attend later the same day, we suggest perhaps not going on a hike in the morning.

The hike will be canceled if there is at least a 60% probability of lightning on the day of the hike, during the time of the hike, in the area of the hike.

We hike in the rain. The hike will not be canceled just because it is raining. It is recommended that you have at your disposal certain articles that could help you if it is raining. These include: an umbrella, a hat with a brim that goes all the way around it, a rain jacket, rain pants, waterproof boots, and waterproof containers for anything you are carrying that you do not want to get wet.

The leadership team is solely responsible for deciding if the hike will be canceled due to weather and will cancel the hike if they determine that weather conditions are contrary. If the hike is going to be canceled it is possible that cancellation could occur as late as the morning of the hike.

Do not post any comments asking who is going to decide whether the hike will be canceled or any comments containing weather predictions or weather forecasts regardless of their origin or any comments publicly contradicting the leadership team.

From time to time the hike leader may need to consult various electronic devices or paper directions in order to stay on the correct path. At such time it is okay to ask questions or point out a prospective trail. The hike leader is not lost. Please do not ask if or say the group is lost even as a joke. Some people hear the word "lost" and panic.

Be mindful that there are hikers of all political persuasions. We want all hikers to feel welcome in this group at all times.
