14 KM hike in Nature Reserve "Doode Beemde" with visit to Brewery "De Kroon"

Nature Reserve "De Doode Beemde" is Nature's carte-de-visite for hikers, bikers and nature fanatics. Localized in the valley of the river Dyle, De Doode Beemde is a baffling patchwork of swamp groves and meadows, bushes and reed beds, ponds and canals.

Brewery De Kroon is localized at the edge of the Nature Reserve, at Beekstraat 20 in Neerijse. It was established in 1897 and operational until 1980. It resumed in 2013 and produces at present four local brands : Petit Delvaux, Delvaux, Job and Super Kroon.

Neighboring Bistro De Kroon is a glowing restaurant, imbued by the rich traditions of the Delvaux beer. It offers a unique culinary experience, joining taste and tradition. UPDATE : Bistro De Kroon is open until 23:00. Please indicate if you are interested in dinner after the hike, because the place is usually fully booked.

Important:

The guided tour takes about 90 minutes and costs €12 per participant, assuming a minimum of 10 participants.
It includes one tasting of the home-made Job beer.

The train station is at the heart of the Nature Reserve.
To get there from Brussels Central station, take the 09:19 train to Leuven. At Leuven, switch to the 09:57 train to Ottignies, and get off at the 3rd. stop in Sint-Joris-Weert.

We start for a 14 km. hike in the Nature Reserve and on the surrounding woodlands. The brewery is at about one hour (3 km.) from the starting point (station).

12:00 : Brewery : guided tour in Dutch for 90 minutes.
Feel free to volunteer for simultaneous translation to English or French.

14:00 : We resume hiking in De Doode Beemde.

18:00 : Arrival at the train station of Sint-Joris-Weert.
Optionally we can go back to Bistro De Kroon (next to the brewery) for a well-deserved lunch. It takes about 10 minutes by car from the station to the Bistro.
