What we’re about
The School of Critical Design is a home for exploration of next design & business practice applied to critical issues impacting the future of humanity. We are a London based school born of an experimental studio model and dedicated to exploring future practice, methods, and thinking in design & business.
We look to create a space for anyone interested in conversations and explorations around design practice. The school focuses on discourse around "critical" issues that will impact humanity now and in the future, for example, climate crisis, energy, food, artificial intelligence, biodiversity, and post-capitalism. We’re creating a space for practitioners to develop further understanding of how design & business might contribute to and play out in these futures.
Come and explore the future with us.

Join us for a conversation with scholar, researcher and author Dr Nadina Galle
Nadina is a leading voice on implementing technologies to monitor and protect nature in our urban environments. She has a truly inspiring big picture vision for how we can adapt to the climate crisis with the 'Internet of Nature', as well as a wealth of tangible examples of individuals and initiatives from around the world of the IoN in action!
This is our second conversation with Nadina. Since our first chat she's published The Nature of Our Cities: Harnessing the Power of the Natural World to Survive a Changing Planet (HarperCollins) and we're excited to hear more about her research for the book and the ideas and characters it documents.
The book is both urgent and hopeful - which is just what we need!

More about our guest speaker:
Dr. Nadina Galle is a Dutch-Canadian ecological engineer, keynote speaker, and author of The Nature of Our Cities: Harnessing the Power of the Natural World to Survive a Changing Planet (HarperCollins), a #1 Amazon bestseller. She is internationally recognized for pioneering the "Internet of Nature" (IoN), a global movement that uses technology to create resilient, nature-rich communities. Her work has been featured by Bloomberg, NPR, CNBC, and the New York Post.
A Ph.D. Fulbright scholar at MIT’s Senseable City Lab, Nadina’s research, spotlighted by BBC Earth and National Geographic, earned her the European Space Agency’s prestigious "Space Oscar." She has been named to Forbes' and Elsevier’s "30 under 30" lists for her entrepreneurial and academic achievements, respectively.
Through her writing, the Internet of Nature Podcast, and over 100 speaking engagements (including Google and TEDx), Nadina showcases innovators blending technology and nature to address climate change, public health, and ecosystem resilience. Recently named a 2024 National Geographic Explorer, she leads global efforts deploying IoN solutions like smart ponds, talking trees, and nature-prescription apps, always with a "nature first, technology second" philosophy.
