What we’re about
Hi there! Welcome to the group :-) This group is part of Scottish Hillwalking & Activities Group - but for walking/hillwalking events only. The other part of the group is for climbing events and if you're interested in that, please join https://4142298.xyz/scottish-hillwalkers/
We're a friendly group that was founded in 2008 to be run by the members for the members. We encourage members to "own the group" and help keep the page active by hosting events, but there is definitely no requirement to do so.
We organise a wide range of walks year round including single Munros, multiple Munros, scrambling over ridges, weekends away and a selection of low level longer walks, pub walks and summer evening walks. We also organise child-friendly Munros.
These shouldn't be considered "led walks" with a professional guide. Think of it more as going walking with a group of friends (and while you may not be friends with everyone at the start of the walk, you will be by the end of it!). However, everyone has to take responsibility for themselves as well as for each other, and everyone has a role to play (be it offering lifts to the start, helping with the navigation on the walk or bringing the jaffa cakes!)
The organiser of a walk or event is the point of contact for the walk. Organisers do not lead walks and are not responsible for others or instructing them. Organisers are volunteers who are sharing their own experience with others, so those of lesser experience should be aware of this.
The group is completely free to join, but we may occasionally ask for a voluntary £3 donation to help cover the cost of hosting the group on Meetup.com.
If you have some ideas for walks and activities or perhaps once you have been on a few events, would like to get involved in organising one, please send us a message via Mountain Goat's Meetup profile.
Look forward to seeing you on a meetup soon,
Mountain Goat

See all- Moderate: Craig of Monievreckie, AberfoyleRiverside Car Park , Aberfoyle FK8 3UQ
Another Aberfoyle wander, Craig Of Monievreckie 400m, a 'Marilyn' in the Menteith hills.
It's a nice start from the village, past Aberfoyle golf course and the Rob Roy way. This is a slightly tougher hill than last weeks Craigmore however as, though they are of similar height, Monievreckie has quite a steep glen path to access near the top. It's clear though through the heather and it just takes a wee bit of time. (Photo of top attached). The Walk highlands report & route below includes a small viewpoint to the west of our hill, we can see on the day if the group fancies doing it.
Meet again behind the Co-op supermarket in the big, free Riverside Car Park (Toilets nearby), to start walking at 10am. https://maps.app.goo.gl/1LskmKvRCRjMM6728
I forgot exactly what a Marilyn is; 'any hill or mountain in the UK or Ireland, with a drop of at least 150m on all sides'. The Marilyn list was devised in the early 1990s by Alan Dawson who reputedly stated that the name was a pun on the munros & film stars name.... Marilyn Munroe. For anyone interested in the list; Marilyn Bagging List + Marilyns GPS Waypoints
Planning to go for a coffee in 'The Station' cafe in Aberfoyle after walk.
As its lower level, less weather dependent than normal.
Dog Friendly. For any queries on the day 07901 987769.
TERRAIN
Broad forest tracks, narrow and steep path for a short while, boggy in places. If you use poles and gaiters i'd bring them.ROUTE
