The Seattle History Field Trips Meetup will begin a series on the history of religion in Seattle. We will visit historical locations and learn about all the religions, native and imported, that have contributed to Seattle's growth over the years. Please send in your ideas for possible tours. I continue to try and make contact with those Eastern religions important to the development of Seattle. Please pass along any contacts that you may have.
MOTHER OF THE AMERICAS PROCESSION
Mesoamerican people and culture have played a large part in Seattle's progress in recent decades. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the "Mother of the Americas" procession through the streets of Seattle, from Immaculate Conception Catholic Church to Saint James Cathedral. And there's a party at both ends. This procession has been performed throughout Mesoamerica for nearly 500 years. The precession includes Mexican themed marching bands, colorful indigenous costumed dancers & marchers, along with a living rendition of the famous (and ubiquitous these days) apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe conveyed atop a flatbed truck. It's quite a sight to behold.
We will not meet as a group for this event. There will be no speaker. Instead, this will be an opportunity to observe/participate in a wonderful and fun instance of religious syncretism between the 'Old' and 'New' Worlds. The festivities start around 9AM at Immaculate Conception. Visitors are most welcome. More info at these links:

ABOUT THE SEATTLE HISTORY FIELD TRIP MEETUP
We are amateur historians with an interest in Seattle. Newbies to Seattle are most welcome. Once a quarter, or so, this group organizes a field trip to visit sites which are significant in Seattle's history, and to share what we know about them. In the past we have visited the gravesites of important personages and the locations of famous events. This Meetup is for anyone who has an interest in Seattle's history or who would like to learn more about the founding and growth of Seattle and the surrounding cities, towns, native peoples, highways, dams, natural resources, industries, famous events & dignitaries, famous visitors, etc.
