Yin Yoga with Micaela
Details
A tranquil and introspective experience. Unlike many other yoga practices that involve flowing sequences and physical exertion, yin yoga is all about stillness and deep relaxation. Yin yoga is a gentle, slow-paced, meditative practice utilizing more restorative, mat based asanas and longer holds with a focus on breathing techniques. In yin yoga, you'll be guided into a series of passive, seated or reclined poses. What sets yin apart is that these poses are held for an extended period, typically anywhere from 3 to 5 minutes or even longer. These extended holds target the connective tissues, tendons, fascia and ligaments to encourage the body to gradually release tension. The aim is to increase circulation in the joints and slowly allow the body to melt into the postures while utilizing the breath to do the work of deepening the stretch. Other key benefits include increased flexibility, relaxing held tension in the body, and cultivating awareness and mindfulness of one's inner stillness.
