Hello! My name is Kevin, and I'm planning an epic road trip from Ireland through Scandinavia and Lapland, exploring stunning landscapes, jords, and wilderness. I'm currently considering using an older Volvo XC90 for the trip and am reaching out to find others who already own similar vehicles and are interested in joining me on this adventure.
The Vehicle and Equipment
While I haven't purchased my vehicle yet, I'm leaning towards an older Volvo XC90 due to its reliability and versatility.
However, I'm specifically looking for people who already own similar vehicles-whether it's a Volvo XC90, a converted camper van, a Jeep, or another 4x4 equipped for long journeys and rough terrain. The idea is to travel together in a convoy, making the most of the flexibility these vehicles offer for camping and exploring remote areas.
Some nights, we'll be camping in the wilderness, so this trip won't always be luxurious. Whether you have a vehicle that's already set up for camping or you're open to sleeping in or around your vehicle, this adventure is all about embracing the simplicity of life on the road and the beauty of nature.
The Route
The planned route will take us through Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland, possibly venturing into the Arctic Circle and through Lapland. We'll be driving through a mix of scenic highways, coastal roads, and rugged mountain paths, exploring remote areas and stopping to camp in beautiful locations. There will also be options to stay in cabins or hostels along the way, giving us a mix of outdoor adventure and comfort when needed.
Looking for Advice
I'm particularly interested in connecting with people who have done this kind of trip before or have experience driving in Scandinavia. Any advice on:
