What we’re about
Sponsored by The National Self-Reliance Project, The Self-Reliance & Simple Life Experience is a self-reliant community borne out of MeetUp Groups throughout the United States, where individuals come together to further educate themselves on self-reliance, through hands-on, fully immersive, curated meetings and events with a focus on preparedness, survival, sustainability/sustainable living, and homesteading.
There is a growing interest in self-reliant lifestyles, as evident in the increasing popularity of homesteading and off-grid living. Many people are seeking a more sustainable and independent way of life, and are turning to homesteading as a means to achieve this. Additionally, the current economic and environmental conditions have also contributed to the growing interest in self-reliant lifestyles.
Self-reliance is a concept that has been celebrated in various cultures and philosophies for fostering independence, resilience and personal growth. The concept of self-reliance was first introduced by Ralph Waldo Emerson in his 1841 essay "Self-Reliance," in which he encourages readers to follow their individual will instead of conforming to social expectations.
The National Self-Reliance Project (NSRP) is on a mission to empower individuals, families, and communities to achieve self-reliance through education, skill-building, and community support, fostering a more resilient and sustainable future. We define self-reliance with 4 pillars to include: Preparedness, Survival, Sustainability, and Homesteading (aka 'the Simple Life').
