What we’re about

The idea behind the book club is to create a small community with a shared passion or curiosity of Shakespeare. Everyone is welcome, whether they are about to read their first play or whether they already possess an expert knowledge of the writer and his plays. In the spirit of communion, everyone will be given an opportunity to share their thoughts on the plays we will read. An order of reading has been planned which allows one to get accustomed to his language before diving into the most well-known, heavier tragedies and historical plays. We will thus start out by shifting between comedies and tragedies until finally reading his historical plays in a chronological order. You are free to read the plays in the language of your preference, but the discussion will be held in English in case there are non-Danish speakers.

The club is created in collaboration with the most charming bookshop of Copenhagen, Thiemers Magasin, in the heart of Vesterbro on Tullinsgade 24. You can buy the books we will read through Thiemers by contacting them on either [email protected] or +45 50595100, and you can view their website here: https://www.thiemersmagasin.dk/.

We will meet approximately once a month at 18:30, and it will be possible to buy tea, coffee, wine etc. in their café.

* Note that there is no affiliation with the bookshop in Paris other than inspiration and appreciation.
