Details

Route: Nether Red Brook and Fair Brook

Meet at: Birchin Clough Bridge car park on the A57 just 1 km North of the old Snake Pass Inn (now a private house), approx postcode: S33 0AB, OS map reference: SK109914. As an environmentally conscious group, we actively encourage car sharing. Further details of car sharing arrangements from Sheffield, Manchester and elsewhere will appear in the comments section nearer the time.

This outing combines an entertaining scramble with some highly picturesque scenery on the far less frequented Northern flanks of Kinder Scout.

Nether Red Brook is a pleasant scramble on nice clean rock with some interesting moves higher up. The full day will include a long scenic hike along the banks of the River Ashop passing through woods and open moorland, a Grade 1 scrambling ascent of Kinder Scout via Nether Red Brook, a hike along Black Ashop Edge on the Northern Kinder plateau overlooking the Snake Pass and weaving through some interesting rock formations, a visit to Fairbrook Naize with plenty opportunity to play about on little scrambling and climbing moves then a Grade 1 scrambling descent of Fair Brook and a stroll along the river bank and through some woods before returning to the car park.
