Enjoy a great day in Princeton as we walk 5 miles at a moderate to brisk pace mainly outside the university campus, covering a great mix of architecture, history, and the all important microbrewery at the end.
LEADER: Cameron Smith, [email protected]; 908-672-9250
CO-LEADER: Christine Summerson: 646-491-0764
WALK DETAILS: Leaving the Princeton train station, we first visit the Princeton Theological Seminary, then listen to the Carillon bells at the Graduate College on the way to the Institute for Advance Study (where a well know scientist named Albert worked). We continue to the historic Princeton battlefield site and visit the Clarke House museum with a great historic presentation before moving on for a quick visit to Drumthwacket (NJ governors mansion), cut thru Marquand Park passing the home of that dude named Albert, visit the Morven Museum & Garden. The last leg of this walk includes the Princeton Battle Monument and a monument to that Albert guy before we finish the official walk at the corner of Nassau St. and University Place where you will be given 3 options:
- Explore the university campus on your own
- Walk 1/2 mile straight to the train station (3:25 departure) or
- BEST OPTION: join the hike leader for a social hour at the Triumph Restaurant & Brewery: Triumph Brewery
BONUS: If you choose option 3 and hang out with the hike leader, you will also get a brief tour of the Princeton campus when we head back to the train station (4:20 departure).
MEET: 11:45AM at the Wawa next to the Princeton train station. We will leave promptly at Noon. See below for how to get there.
HOW TO GET TO STARTING POINT:
Most Shorewalkers will take the 10:16AM train from Penn Station arriving at Princeton Station at 11:40AM (Roundtrip fare is $20.40 Adult/$9.40 Sr). NOTE: train riders will transfer at Princeton Junction to board the short train ride to Princeton Station. Drivers can park for free at the Theatre Drive Garage next to the train station.
BRING: water, snack/lunch, and comfortable footwear.
RAIN DATE: will be following Saturday, December 14th.
GUESTS:
If you plan to bring a guest, please forward them this guest waiver and make sure they sign it before coming to the walk: Guest waiver
MODIFIED RSVP PROCESS: In order to minimize the aggravation caused by casual clickers (those who change their mind at last minute so others can't take their spot), I will initially cap RSVPs at 30 and then only take additional motivated members (from the Waitlist) who text me (908-672-9250) that they really want to attend this event. Just to be clear, NO TEXT, NO GO, I will require everyone including the president (I mean Joe, not Pam) who wants to join us from the Waitlist to text me (908-672-9250). Preference will be given to regulars on previous hikes and/or members who indicate they are highly motivated members (will also join us to socialize at the Triumph brewery at end of our walk). Members who are paying attention here will realize that no-one should be left on the Waitlist other than casual clickers (folks who don't pay attention to directions).
Please don't post any comments/questions prior to the walk, instead contact Cameron at [email protected] or text 908-672-9250.
