Shut Up & Write!™ Albany - In Person - Free Write and Chat

Join us for 2 hours of free writing and conversation!

Book, blog, script, dissertation, melody, work stuff - whatever you're writing, you're invited to write it with us. Don't just think about writing, get some writing done.

This event is in person at Professor Java's in Albany. To find us, look for someone with the Shut Up & Write! sign.
If you don't see us, ask around; if we don't see you, come introduce yourself.
Due to the nature of this event and location, the host and regular attendees may not know or recognize everyone who is attending. We try our best to welcome and introduce ourselves to new attendees, but can very easily miss someone.

To participate, you will need:

• whatever you use to work on your writing (laptop, paper and pencil, etc.)

• this time is NOT silent. If you think the conversation of others will be a distraction for you: bring some headphones, feel free to move to a different room in the cafe, or join us for the event that directly follows this one and has 1 hour of silent work (check the group calendar for the 6:15 event).

4:00-6:00PM - Free Write and Chat

This time is unstructured and self-directed, feel free to work silently or chat with others in the group.

General Guidelines:

• Be respectful.

• Look for someone with the Shut Up & Write! sign, if you don't see us, ask around; if we don't see you, come introduce yourself.

• Being late is OK! Just show up, get settled, and start writing.

• Leaving early is OK! Feel free to step out whenever you need to, no explanation needed.

Other Considerations:

• We try to find seating that accommodates the whole group together, but depending on availability and group size, this may not be possible.

• If you are on time, please be willing to make room/ adjust tables and chairs for possible latecomers.

• WiFi and Outlet availability is not guaranteed. Charge your device beforehand, and bring a local or hard copy of your work just in case.

• If we are meeting at a business, please thank our hosts by purchasing something. Remember, we are guests in any space we occupy.
