Shut Up and Write Weekly Meeting
Details
Weekly, we host a writing workshop for those who would like writerly feedback for their stories, scripts, poems, essays, etc. while also being willing to offer that feedback to fellow writers.
We are workshopping pieces that were distributed at the previous meetup and we also have a flash fiction contest for those interested! DM the host James to receive access to these pieces if you want to read and comment on them and to be a part of the flash fiction contest.
Guidelines for the workshop:
-
Submit pieces via word document or google docs
-
We will provide helpful critical feedback (2 good things and 2 things you can improve on)
-
Do not send your edits/comments of someone's work until after the verbal workshop each month
-
Up to 2000 words can be submitted
-
Comics and poetry are fine (no length limits)
-
Do either line edits or paragraph comment at the end (paragraph is only necessary if you do not do line edits, but provide as much as you are able to)
-
Let us know if you’re doing something autobiographical so that we are not judging it as fiction
The expectation at each new workshop is that 3-4 people will be willing to submit a piece of work that can be distributed via Google Drive.
Workshop members will have time to add their line-edits/comments to the submitted documents. People are welcome to print out the piece or just to edit it via google docs. At the following meeting, we will determine who will submit a work to be workshopped at the next meeting.
Please feel free to come even if you did not read the workshop piece, especially if you have something to submit.
