Shut Up and Write! on Thursday
Details
Join us for an hour or more of writing, and writing experience exchanges at the State Cinema Cafe (we’re all the way in the back behind the stairs)! We've discovered that writing with a group is very helpful: see if it's true for you!
Whatever you're working on, whether it's a novel, poetry, script, essay, dissertation, or simply something for work, you are invited to write with us. Nobody will look at your work or give you unsolicited advice. We're just here to write, together.
SCHEDULE:
- 17:30 - Introductions & inevitable banter
- 17:45 - Timer starts: write for 1 hour
- 18:45 - The End: chat, take off, or keep writing
Afterwards, we’ll have an optional time to chat and get to know each other. Members often talk about their successes and challenges as writers. Our events are a safe space for writers to work on their craft.
Being Late is Okay
Just show up and get settled, then check in with me after the session. (I’ll be the person with the Shut Up & Write!® sign.) If you are on time, please be willing to make room for any friendly latecomers.
What Should I Bring?
Whatever you need to be able to write! Please make sure your devices are fully charged or bring a powerbank, as the cafe may not have outlets available.
Bring earplugs or headphones if you want to block the cafe’s ambient music or the occasional conversation by other patrons.
Other Important Details:
- VENUE WIFI NAME/PASSWORD: The State Cinema does not provide wifi; you will have to either bring your own internet (eg hotspot off your phone), or take it as an opportunity to not be distracted by the internet and simply write!
- TRAVEL / PARKING: There is a small car park attached to the cinema, but it may be easier to find street parking. Many of the side streets off Elizabeth have free, non-timed parking after 6pm.
- GUIDELINES: The State Cafe kitchen closes at 7pm, but drinks are available at the bar until 9pm. Please thank our hosts by purchasing something.
Every week on Thursday until January 10, 2025
