Welcome to the Weston-super-Mare chapter of Shut Up & Write!
What's this all about?
We all know how hard it is to find dedicated writing time with day jobs, life responsibilities, distractions. It's easy to procrastinate and not end up doing any actual writing.
The purpose of Shut Up & Write is to carve out time to put your head down and get some words out.
The concept is simple. You arrive at the venue, we have 15 minutes of chat and introductions, then you... shut up and write.
After two hours of quietly working alongside each other, we put down our pens or close our laptops and have some social time.
What this isn't:
This isn't a fiction workshop or feedback session. It's a co-working space for writers. Bring whatever writing project you're currently working on. At the end of the session, we'll usually have a chat about how we got on and this often turns into a lovely passionate discussion about the ins and outs of writing, but you don't have to share anything or give feedback.
I'm new and I've not done a lot of writing. Is it okay if I come?
Yes! You are very welcome. We all had to start somewhere. We've had everyone from published authors making a living from their work to completely new writers starting their first short story. People at sessions will write everything from dissertations to film scripts to novels. You can write anything you want and be at any stage of your writing journey.
The only requirement is that you want to write.
What do I bring?
Whatever you need to work on your project, so your laptop or notebook or whatever your preferred medium is. We don't provide anything other than a meetup event and the opportunity to meet and work alongside other writers.
Is there a cost?
Nope. There's no fee. However, we do ask that you buy a drink or a snack to support the venue.
Are you doing an online version?
Not for the Weston-super-Mare chapter of Shut Up and Write. There are online versions for the Bristol chapter and elsewhere, so keep an eye on those spaces.
