What we’re about
Shut Up & Write! is a global community that empowers writers to overcome procrastination, silence their inner critic, and make consistent progress on their projects. Our events provide a structured and focused environment where writers can come together, set aside distractions, and achieve their writing goals.
What to Expect
Our events use our proven formula: a few minutes of introductions, a period of focused writing, and a final check-in to share our progress. Once you arrive, our host will lead introductions, and then everyone will write for a quiet, focused period of time. Afterward, we’ll have an optional time to chat and get to know each other. Our events are a safe space for writers to work on their craft. No one will read or critique your writing.

ABOUT THE EVENT
Join us for a solid hour of writing on Tuesday mornings. Come once. Come weekly. Or flit in and out. The Zoom link is always the same and you can attend even if you don't manage to RSVP at Meetup or SUAW.WHAT'S NEW
Although you can sign up at the Shut Up & Write site, the link from here works just fine.
SCHEDULE
Welcome!
I open the room at 9:15 so we can chat and introduce ourselves and talk about our writing projects and our goals for the session. Then we write in silence from 9:30-10:30. People who wish to can stay a few minutes longer to talk about how the writing went or anything else relating to the writing process.
We used to meet at a local cafe and now we Zoom together. You don't have to be local to join us. Just RSVP or email to get the link and you're in.
9:15am Pacific Time: The room opens. We introduce ourselves, maybe say a bit about what we're working on.
9:30-10:30: We write. Everyone's muted but most of us keep our video on.
10:30: A bit of chat. Sometimes people will share how it went or read a bit, but that's all optional.
WHAT WE DO
The only requirement is that you join us in working on something. It can be a novel, a book, a poem, a song, a short story, an essay. Or it can be a letter, a proposal, computer code, or homework.
We're not a critique group. You don't need to say anything but hello and what you'd like us to call you. It's all about carving out time to write.
PLEASE NOTE: If you have any trouble getting in, please contact me (cyndi at norwitz dot net). (Updated 8/24)
Hope to see you!

Downtown co-working for local writers!
Join us for focused writing time and meet other Sonoma County writers. All writers and all experience levels are welcome. These weekly events are a safe space for writers of all skill levels and genres to work on their craft. We don’t read or share our work, or offer any critiques. We meet in a tight huddle to keep the noise level down in this inspiring, creative space. We can chat quietly as we wait for everyone to arrive. Once everyone’s arrived, I will lead quick introductions with intentions for your writing time. Then I'll set my timer for one hour and we'll spread out to whatever spots are most comfortable for you for our silent, focused writing session. When the timer goes off (silently), I'll gather everyone by walking through the library with a sign to alert you that our time is up. Then we can take turns briefly sharing how the session went for us.
Afterward, feel free to chat quietly and get to know each other. We often talk about our successes and challenges as writers. This library has an outdoor space that's nice for this when the weather is conducive. If you don’t have time to stick around, no worries!

Parking info: Parking is ample, and free after 6 pm. There's also a parking garage in the same block, for which the first hour is free, and $1/hr thereafter. With nothing to purchase at the venue, this makes this a very affordable weekly meeting.
Venue Guidelines: I have secured use of this space for our group with the understanding that we will converse in our library voices and respect others' needs for a quiet space to work and study.
