Day Hike: Murphy/Chambers Farm and Virginius Island, Harpers Ferry National Historical Park
Distance/Difficulty: 6 miles/MODERATE with options for a 1.5-mile, EASY alternative
Duration: 3.5 hours (shorter for easy option)
Description: We will hike through fields, wooded ravines, and a riparian forest. We will enjoy views of the Shenandoah River, Civil War cannons, earthworks, and numerous historic sites. This will be a terrific opportunity to see Harpers Ferry decorated for the Christmas season. Harpers Ferry NHP’s entry fees are $20/vehicle or a park pass. Carpooling may be arranged online. There is no charge for the hike, but donations are welcome.
Bring: Plenty of water and snacks. Wear comfortable shoes with good traction and wear layers for varying weather conditions.
Meet: Kiosk outside the Harpers Ferry NHP Visitor Center, Shoreline Drive, Harpers Ferry
Cancellation: We will carry on in light rain or snow but cancel in ice or heavy precipitation.
