Broad St, Richmond, 23220 A discussion from different points of view on what role nuclear power may play in helping us transition from fossil fuel. Dr. Supathorn Phongikaroon, Nuclear Engineering Program Director at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), Bob Shippee, VA Chapter Legislative Chair, and Glen Besa, FOJG ExCom Member and Political Chair, will present.
Dr. Supathorn Phongikaroon is the Nuclear Engineering Program Director at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Under his leadership, the program has grown in research and industry partnerships, earning a U.S. News & World Report ranking of 18th in 2023/2024. Dr. Phongikaroon is also an Engineering Foundation Professor and a licensed professional engineer. His research focuses on nuclear fuel separation and safeguarding technologies. He has established labs at VCU and secured over $5.7 million in funding for more than 20 projects. Dr. Phongikaroon has taught over 25 classes and published over 50 peer-reviewed papers. He holds a Ph.D. and B.S. in Chemical Engineering and Nuclear Engineering, respectively, from the University of Maryland, College Park.
