Details

Come explore Pellicer Creek, a designated State Canoe Trail which is noted for its scenic and pristine condition. Faver-Dykes S.P. is well-known for its very natural condition while the park borders Pellicer Creek as it winds its way along the southern boundary of the park. The creek contains saltwater and freshwater fish species such as spotted sea trout, common snook, large-mouth bass and bream. The park is also a popular site for birding with more than one-hundred species of birds seen during spring and fall migrations. Pellicer Creek was named for settler Francisco Pellicer who received a land grant from the King of Spain and then built his homestead on the banks of the creek around 1800. Pellicer Creek, an aquatic preserve, is the main body of water in the 6,045 acre Faver-Dykes State Park.

We will paddle at a moderate pace from the second launch site in Faver Dykes S.P. (1000 Faver-Dykes Road). Total time: about 2.5 – 3 hours. Be at the launch site by 9:30 a.m. to sign waiver and for a brief discussion about the paddle trip and the importance of safety and the Sierra Club and its mission. Be in the water by 10:00. Restrooms are available at the launch site which is a hard surface with easy access, parking and put-in. It is usually calm water with minimal tidal effect. A small fee box ($5) is requested or a Florida State Park Pass number and is on the honor system and is requested by the State for entry to the park. Be sure to stop and pay your fee!

For those interested, we will stop for lunch following the paddle (restaurant tbd)
