As long as the INVITE ONLY text is up, the event is only for those receiving an invite via meetup PM. If you signup without invite you will be removed.
I'm sending invites to all members that have attended 5 or more meetups. Later I will open up this event for everyone (and then the INVITE ONLY text will be removed).

After last year's succes i decided to repeat this event this year.

Since the holiday season is coming up, I want to do something special for December’s meetup: Jólabókaflóð (Iceland’s Christmas Eve book tradition), but then mixed with blind date with a book.

How does it work?
Everybody brings a book and wraps it as a gift, write a short blurb on a card about the book (but no title or author) and attach. We put all the books in a big pile and everybody picks one to read and take home. If you happen to pick a book that you already read, you can swap with someone else.

No need to buy a new book! Just take a book from your bookcase or the pile on your nightstand that you want to pass on to someone else.
No books at home? Bring a book from a mini bibliotheek (= mini library, for more info and instructions: https://www.minibibliotheek.nl, also a great place to donate books!), and Amsterdam has some amazing second hand books stores where there are amazing finds with low prices.
Fiction, non-fiction, hardcover or paperback: it’s all fine!
Preferably a book in English.

We won’t be judging the books by their covers, so make sure the paper isn’t see-through and that you can’t see which book it is. Don't forget to write a short blurb on a card about the book (but no title or author) and attach.

After the book exchange we will follow our normal schedule of quietly reading and socializing.

Timetable:
14:00 - 14:15 find a seat, get a drink, say hello
14:15 - 14:30 blind book exchange!
14:30 - 15:30 silent reading hour (please step away for a chat)
15:30 - 16:00 chat about the book read, book recommendations or just keep reading.

There will be tea, coffee and water.
If you want anything else you can bring your own food and drinks.

Silent Book Club was created with the idea that reading with friends is awesome. Put down your phone and pick up a book, have a coffee, tea or a glass of wine and spend quality time with fellow book lovers. Bring your own book and start reading in silence with everyone else!

This event is for everyone interested in books, reading and talking about books. Sharing our love for books.

Don't forget to bring your own book. All (e-)books and all readers are welcome!
