Bear Mountain Trail in Salisbury Connecticut.

Let’s enjoy a brisk 6.1 mile hike up to Bear Mountain in Mount Riga State Park in Salisbury Connecticut. This hike will be classified as a moderate to difficult hike. There is a steep climb at the midway point as we ascend to the summit of Bear Mountain, which is over 2300 feet. Please perform a self assessment to ensure you’re ready for this hike.
We will climb 1600 feet to the summit. We will begin the hike at the start of the Under Mountain trail then take the Paradise Trail. It will be a moderate steady climb to the beginning of the steep ascent up the rocky north face of Bear Mountain summit. Once we reach the summit we will take a lunch break and enjoy the spectacular views. After the break we will continue along the Appalachian Trail and then return to the cars.

The Bear Mountain Trail is one of the most popular trails in Mount Riga State Park. There are spectacular views from the top. The trailhead and parking lot are located right off Route 41. See attached link for the exact location of the parking lot.

Please have appropriate hiking boots (no sneakers) and gear for this hike. Bring plenty of water, snacks, and a lunch to enjoy once we reach the summit to enjoy the wonderful view.
