Hike in El Malpais off Pie Town Road

Just south of the Dittert Site is a group of canyons that should contain some decent ruins and hopefully some petroglyphs. I was down in this area once before and found a most excellant arrowhead and there should be more. Total driving distance of about 110 miles one way. All on pavement except for the last 5-7 miles which is good gravel that turns into crappy dirt the last mile or so. Having said that a good high clearance AWD or 4x4 will be required to get into this area. And that is only in good weather! Hiking distance to be about 5-7 miles. Elevation gain is very little as we'll be exploring the canyon walls and hopefully not climbing a lot. NO DOGS or WHINERS! If your still upset about the election, then STAY HOME!
I would rate this event as MODERATE. It will be all bushwhacking as there are no trails in this area. Be prepared to reimburse your drivers at the rate of $.10 per mile roundtrip or about $25.00 for the day. I'll be stopping at Laguna Burger on the way home so feel free to join me.
