LETS GO TO THE MOUNTAINS. (and don't forget to answer the questions at the end of RSVP).. No beginners. If there is a lot of snow this will be cancelled.

This is a moderate to difficult loop hike at a moderate pace. This is not a beginner hike. This is an endurance hike as it is 10.5 miles. It is a little bit harder than the local CRNRA hikes but if you've done those, you are ready for this.

We'll meet at Kohls in Cumming at 8:30am which is convenient for people use 85/985 as well as 400. Non-carpoolers can meet at 9:30am just outside the Amicalola Falls State Park Visitor Center. Once inside you need to sign into the book at the desk that is for folks NOT staying at the Hike Inn. You will sign out at the conclusion of the hike as well. We will then drive up to the top of the falls where we will start our hike. There are bathrooms at the visitors center and port-a-potty at the top of the falls. We will hike the AT Approach trail northward for 5.5 miles. This trail has a lot of ups and downs, but more ups then down....we're going up hill. We will turn right onto the Len Foote Trail and hike a mile to the Len Foote Hike Inn

We will stop at the Inn to look around a bit and eat our packed lunch in the dining hall there. The Inn does not serve lunch to day hikers but will sometimes have some dessert or fruit that you can take in exchange for tips to the Inn’s staff. This is not a guarantee, so be sure to bring your own lunch. They will have iced tea, lemonade, hot water, tea bags and chocolate and other drinks that you can pay for with tips. We will stay at the Inn about 30 minutes. Again, be sure to leave a generous tip if you eat/drink anything.

From the Inn we will continue southward 5 miles back to the top of the falls via the Len Foote Trail....this will also have ups and downs, but more downs than ups....we're going downhill. Also there are some new boardwalks in the case of rain/flooding.

There is a $5 Georgia Park Parking Fee per vehicle at Amicalola Falls State Park unless you display an annual pass. You can check out a free pass at any local library with a library card.
