This hike is on Ft. Huachuca. You must have a Visitor Pass or Military ID card. If you need a Visitor Pass, you should plan to get it in advance of the hike. The only place to get the Visitor Pass is the building on the right just at the East (Van Deman) gate off of Highway 90 Bypass.

Meet at the Garden Canyon Trail head on Garden Canyon road and be ready to hike at the start time. Since the rainy season happened, much damage has been suffered in Garden Canyon, so if the last dip before the trailhead is impassible for you, just park alongside the road near the last picnic area and walk across the dip to the parking lot for the trailhead. If you are new to the group, send a message to the group organizer for more details.

The hike itself is approximately 5 miles (2.5 miles each way) on Garden Canyon Rd. The road is currently deeply damaged, with several washes to cross. You may get wet feet. The elevation change is about 800 ft. which makes this similar to the Carr Canyon Hike.

Along the way are some pictographs, which make for a nice photo op.

As usual, before leaving the house to attend the hike you should check this web site to make sure that the hike leader(s) have not cancelled the hike due to adverse conditions on the trail.

You are welcome to bring a dog, as long as the animal is allowed on the Fort, but please be respectful of others and only bring an animal that is well-socialized with strangers and other dogs.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION:
Please wait for all members to end the hike so we can be sure everyone is safely back. If you have an appointment or have to work, then we understand your need to leave and if so, please tell us ahead of time. If our slower hikers are getting far behind, just make sure that all least 3 of them agree to stay together to the very end; in that case, you are free to leave. It's important that all hikers are with at least one other person during the hike. No one is obligated to maintain the same pace as any other hiker; hike at your own risk. Extra slow hikers may want to arrange to bring a friend along who has a similar pace.

HOW TO FIND US:
We will meet at the Garden Canyon trailhead. Enter the Main Gate at Fort Huachuca and drive to Irwin Street. Turn left, continue following this street past the stop sign, crossing Winrow Ave. The road will turn to dirt shortly after that. Continue following it to the stop sign on Garden Canyon Road, and take a left onto the paved road. Follow Garden Canyon Road until you pass the last picnic area on the right, and the road turns again to dirt. There is one last paved dip to cross and park immediately to your right, in the parking area just past the dip. If you car cannot navigate that dip, just park near that last picnic area and cross the dip on foot, meeting in that parking lot.
