SUMMARY:
This hike combines a couple of popular hikes (well, parts of one) - the small Brooks Falls loop hike and the Montara Mountain North Peak. The Brooks Falls part (2.2 miles) will be mostly shaded and the out and back on Montara Mountain trail/North Peak road to the North Peak will be mostly exposed. Plan accordingly. IMO, this is the best way to hike Montara Mountain as we get to enjoy the varied terrains and vegetation of Brooks Falls loop and Montara Mountain Trail while also getting to see the great views from North Peak.
HIKING DIRECTIONS:
We will be doing the following hike -
https://www.alltrails.com/explore/trail/us/california/north-peak-via-montara-mountain-trail
The plan is to meet up at 12 pm by the Montara Mountain trailhead at the parking lot and start the hike by 12:15 pm. We should take about 3-3.5 hrs for the hike and should be done by 3:30-4:00 or so.
As you can see, the hike is pretty straightforward. From the parking lot we will take the Montara Mountain Trail up all the way to the junction with North Peak access road. From here we will take the North Peak access road to, well, North Peak. Here we will take a short break to enjoy the views and replenish ourselves with food and whatnot. There should be some great views available to us. FYI, the picture above is from the same hike held previously.
Coming back, we will retrace out steps via North Peak access road and Montara Mountain Trail to the junction with Brooks Creek trail. From here we will take Brooks Creek Trail and Old Trout Farm loop trail to get back to the parking lot. While on the Brook Trail, we will pass by the Brooks Fall viewing area. There won't be enough water in the stream for the waterfall to be visible, but that's what imagination is for.
