Sunday Sketch Crawl - High Bar @ Hotel SLO

Details

Let's get our sketch on! This week meet back up downtown at the 'High Bar' – Hotel San Luis Obispo's premiere rooftop bar. From here, we get a pretty sweet view of downtown and the surrounding hills to draw inspiration from (literally and figuratively). *Note: They don't take reservations so given the desirability of getting a seat, I'm going to limit the count to 10 people this time RSVP quick before spots fill up!

Parking Tip: There's a public garage across the street on Palm if that helps speed up finding a spot.

Fine print: Typically, we get two sketches in per event. Plan for about 30-40 mins per session – this gives us the ability to draw the same space from different angles or pick up and walk to another nearby spot to keep things fresh and interesting. Before, between, and after sessions, we'll do a quick group introduction/share of what we created - in order to support and inspire each other while reinforcing the communal aspects of the group.

Things to consider before joining session:

  • Skill level: All ages and abilities welcome. No sketching experience needed. This is a non-judgemental supportive environment that encourages you to express yourself however you want. If you have any mobility considerations please let me know so we can factor that into the route/destination.
  • Supplies: Be sure to bring a sketchbook and something to draw with. I'll have some extra pens and watercolor kits if anyone wants to experiment or forgets something. A small shoulder bag is helpful so you're not carrying everything in your hands. (*Note that I recommend drawing in pen (mistakes are your friend!) and on a smaller sketchbook rather than a large pad given the short duration (small = fast)).
  • Sitting: We typically sit wherever we can. On the ground, a bench (if available), on a wall. If you need it, bring something like a towel or blanket to sit on if concerned about dirt or comfort. (*Note we'll prioritize shady spots when we can depending on heat/sun).
  • Weather: Bring a jacket as it cools off in the evening and or hat/sunscreen as we may be in direct sunlight for up to 45 mins at a time. If the weather gets real bad we can go indoors or reschedule.
  • Questions & RSVP: Reach out so I can answer them. If you can't make it, be sure to update your reservation in advance so I have a good idea of final head count for planning purposes. This group works best between 5 and 15 people so I may limit the number of attendees depending on the location.
