The run with the Smiling Finishers Run Club always starts Sundays at 8:30 am in the Westend. The meeting point is in front of Starbucks @ Corner of Robson/Denman.
Currently we are not training for a specific race, so most of the group is running around 10km. If you want to go shorter you might need to run some of the loop on your own but we always make sure that you arrive safely.
After the run we meet for coffee at the Starbucks.
These days we are mostly running our standard route around Stanley Park. You can find the routes at the bottom of the description. If we have a different route it will be posted here the day before. Please also read through the Additional information section, so you know what to expect.
If you are running faster or slower than our pace groups you are still welcome to join but you will need to pace yourself.
In case you RSVP going and can not attend please cancel. We reserve the right to exclude people from the group who do not cancel.
Additional Information to our Sunday LSD (Long Slow Distance) runs
This group started out of interest for people who want to run/finish a Half Marathon. If we are training for a half marathon we usually run between 8 to 20 kilometers. At the beginning of the training, we are usually more at the lower end of the mileage and increase it over time. We have always options we can recommend when you need more or less mileage.
For the run, we form different pace groups. We mostly cover the pace range of about 6 - 8:00 minutes per kilometer. (9.6 - 12.9 minutes per mile). Most of the runs are from 60 - 100 minutes with some longer sessions
These LSD Runs (Long Slow Distance) are meant to build your endurance and are as said slow (at least 1 minute slower than your half marathon pace). We also include walk breaks of 45 Seconds after every 9 min 15 seconds of running. This is a very successful strategy to stay healthy and even for racing faster.
Thanks to the slower pace you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the city and can chat with the group while running. Should you not be able to chat, you are going too fast ;-)
We always have the "Standard Routes" around the seawall available. They range from 5K to 10K and are shown below.
