What we’re about
Snake River Rug Makers is a Chapter of the international organization ATHA: Association of Traditional Hooking Artists.
Rug Hooking is both an art and a craft where rugs are made by pulling loops of yarn or fabric through a backing such as burlap or linen. The loops are pulled up using a crochet type hook mounted in a handle.
We gather monthly, and sometimes more often, to socialize and work on our projects. We occasionally have a business meeting to plan events and vote on issues. Membership costs $40 per year, which includes mandatory membership in ATHA. With this membership you will receive a magazine several times a year and have access to the ATHA website which has tutorials and free patterns, among other things.
This Chapter was only formed in December of 2023 so we are still working on the events and activities that we hope to do each year. We just finished a Fine Cut Shading Class in April, and on June 1 we will have our annual "Hook In". We hope to exhibit many or our rugs at local fairs later this year.
Our monthly meetings are held at the Bru House Galilei on Main Street in Pocatello from 9am until noon on the 4th Saturday of each month. Anyone is welcome to come see what we are working on. We have supplies available to borrow for beginners who want to give it a try!
