Make & Take - 3D Printed Lithopanes

Details

Registration is required before taking this class!

Lithopanes are thin plaque of translucent material, normally porcelain, which has been molded to various thickness, such that when backlit the different thicknesses show as different shades, forming an image. They were invented in France in 1820 and became very popular in lampshades, nightlights, or to be hung on windows. Traditionally, lithopanes were made by hand carving wax on a glass backing, then making a plaster of paris mold, which becomes the reuseable mold for porcelain.

With modern 3D Printing and computational techniques, it is possible to make one-off, 3D printed lithopanes from an image file. Join Terence as we walk through the generation of the 3D geometry and slicing of the lithopane for custom night light. We'll go over the print settings for a successful lithopane print.

Again, please register for this class before attending!
