Waterfall Frenzy - 3 short hikes near Granite Falls
Details
After a nice spell of dry weather, the next week or so looks kinda wet, so waterfalls it is! We'll head to Granite Falls to first gawk at the namesake falls there (<0.5 mile round trip). Then head upriver on the Mountain Loop to Robe Canyon. The South Fork Stilly should be running wild and there's a nice little waterfall at the end (2.4 miles mile round trip).
From there, we'll head back to Granite Falls and a few miles south to hike up to Explorer Falls, a fairly easy 5-mile round trip (Discover Pass required for this one.) That adds up to an 8-mile day with a cumulative elevation gain of about 700 feet. (All three areas are described in my new edition of Hiking Snohomish County. I'm still working on getting the book into stores, but Edmonds Bookshop, Artisans in Everett, Wanderlust in Bothell, and a few others carry it. Hopefully REI soon... Sorry for digressing.)
Since folks may come from different directions, I suggest we meet 9:00 am in front of the IGA Market in Granite Falls, near the big sign close to the street. Feel free to coordinate with others if you want to carpool to Granite Falls. Dress for the weather and bring full raingear if it's a rainy day. Trip is on rain or shine. Trails should be in good shape, but there could be some muddy areas.
