What we’re about
Welcome to SOB Cycling!
This is not (NOT) an "anti-male" group but is focused on creating a safe space for women to ride and grow in the sport/hobby of cycling. Cycling is a very male-dominated activity and sometimes the women's perspective gets lost.
This group's privacy is set to private so that the safe space, including the details of where we will gather, remains only visible to members of this group.
What I have noticed since moving to The Triangle is that many cycling groups are male dominated, which changes the dynamic of a group...and a peloton (If you know, you know).
For me, I wanted a group that has rides where every person isn't training for a race series and/or a century. I want to get consistent (again) and rebuild my cycling stamina after injury and self-neglect.
Don't get me wrong, I never stopped cycling, but I have become "a person who rides" more than the cyclist I once was, who lived the lifestyle...and I do miss it.
Whether on the road, gravel, or trail, above all else, I want to have fun and explore now (and familiar) terrain.
If you're a MTB girlie, the TORC Women's group is awesome, but doesn't host many rides. TORC overall is a great group and I encourage all my MTB ladies to consider joining. Regardless, I WILL (WILL) be scheduling MTB rides all over. (Admittedly, I am an XC rider and former racer who favors climbing over jumping off sht, so if jumping off sht is your thing, I will happily watch and be your hype girl...but will not actively seek out trails that specifically cater to flow or gravity. Sorry. I broke my back walking my dogs; imagine what I could break with my level of coordination.)
Most but not all weekday rides will be road or gravel and I will host longer MTB events on weekends.
Were you previously a competitive cyclist who suffered an injury and is recovering? Or lost your mojo? Or just walked away from the sport for a beat but want back in?
Are you strong as all get out but want to ride with other women and elevate them? YES! Come ride!
Do you miss riding and training with others but perhaps are not yet ready to jump back into other group rides at their posted average speeds or just don't want the imbalance of the male-dominated ride?
Do you miss having a set training plan?
Want to ride with others but hate the heat or just need to get sh*t done early in the day before the day takes you..?
(This cannot just be me.)
Let's work it out together and get back in the saddle in ways that build us up and spark joy and community.
*If you are a beginner cyclist, this may not be the best fit for you, but you are still welcome to show up and see what we are about. :-)
About me: I relo'ed to NC from STL in Nov 2020 and have struggled to get back in the saddle in a meaningful way after injury and a bit of social isolation. I love NC and want to (somewhat selfishly) build a community that supports those of us who seem to fall through the group ride cracks...the formerly advanced-level, injured/recovering athletes. :-)
Let's do this!
*Side Note: Fundraising was accidentally triggered and I have since disabled. I will never request funding support for this group. :-)
