Details

Sobertopia presents: Forest Bathing with Anjali Kumar in The Presidio, San Francisco!

Welcome to the ultimate opportunity to connect with women in the Bay Area who don't need alcohol to have a good time! Sobertopia proudly presents the weekly "Sobertopia Walk" to start your weekend with (new) friends and nature!

🎤 This week you can join us for a two hour leisurely walk where you will be guided through a series of invitations to engage with the forest. After the walk we will sit together and share (voluntary). This walk is led by Anjali Kumar, who is training to be a guide with the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy. She has a PhD in Animal Behavioral Ecology and has been working for the past several years in international development and foreign affairs related to forest and ocean conservation, mainly in South and Central America. After spending so much time abroad and farther away from nature and forests than she desired, she decided to return back to her passion of being immersed in nature and guiding others in engaging with all that the forest has to offer. Anjali and this walk will inspire and rejuvenate your mind, body and spirit!

What to expect:

We will do a two hour forest bathing walk where Anjali will guide you through a series of sensory invitations to aid you to engage with the forest.
Shinrin-yoku, forest bathing, is defined as making contact with, and taking in the atmosphere of, the forest. Shinrin-yoku begun as a Japanese preventative public health initiative to get stressed-out and overworked business people outside and into the forest to slow down, and their blood pressures dropped and stress hormones dissipated. Forest bathing has also been shown to improve sleep quality, mood, and ability to focus.

What to bring:

Bring appropriate clothing for the weather. We will also share tea together to close the experience, so please bring a cup with you. There will be opportunities for you to sit on the forest floor so if a mat or pad will make it more comfortable for you, please bring one.

A few practicalities:

  • Start of the walk is where W Pacific Ave and Arguello Blvd cross, which is the start of the Ecology Trail in the Presidio. Right opposite the Presidio Golf Course. There is free parking available near the golf course, as well as restrooms - Exact location:
