Join us at Social Dance Academy Belfast where you can learn Kizomba, a beautiful dance that originated in Angola, with both the dance and music having their origins in Semba and Angolan Merengue.
​
The word “Kizomba” is derived from the Angolan word for ‘party’ or ‘celebration’, and the dance is known for its smooth, earthy dynamic and traditionally close partnership hold.
​
There are only a handful of steps that are simple to learn, and the steps are danced on every beat with a continuous movement or flow.
​
Kizomba’s magic, and the reason for its world-wide popularity, lies in its relationship to the music, and the finely tuned lead-follow connection, which gives it that smooth, flowing movement and feeling.
​
There are some guidelines concerning the step patterns, but the musicality takes precedence, with the dance itself composing of these handful of steps danced in different ways and combinations, making it smooth yet dynamic.
​
Dancers listen and interpret the music through their movements, and at the Academy, we teach you the steps of kizomba, built around African folk rhythms, and help you find that connection to the music, allowing you to learn musicality and more.
​
You will also learn different styles of the dance which originated from Kizomba, such as Urban Kiz or Kizomba Fusion, which evolved as way to dance kizomba to a wide variety of musical influences.
​
Kizomba is a great dance style to learn, and it is danced at most Afro-Latin socials, congresses and festivals around the world.
​

Its easy to learn and pick up by beginners, contributing to its popularity, along with the different styles of the dance, including Dominican, Moderna and Sensual, making it highly enjoyable by a wide audience of dancers. ​

Bachata was a music genre, and like all dances, it developed from the music, and that music has diversified to allow for many different styles using the same foundational footwork.

​Salsa is a fun, energetic and exciting partner dance. It’s a very sociable dance, so you don’t need to have a partner to learn, you will make friends quickly and easily at Social Dance Academy Belfast.
​
We have new dancers joining every week, and everyone is very supportive, especially of new students.
​
Salsa has become highly popular around the world, and there are 3 main styles of salsa:
​
Linear or Crossbody salsa, which is the most popular style that we teach regularly at the Academy, then there is Cuban, and Columbian salsa.
​
We teach L.A crossbody, but with various classes, workshops and guest teachers throughout the year, you can dive into these different types, and learn the history and culture, keeping your curiosity and interest peaked all year round.
​
Salsa is easy to learn and pick up by beginners, and at the Academy, we have a fast learning curve, allowing you to quickly and easy learn this amazing dance.
​
Salsa is a culturally rich dance to learn, and with only a few classes, you can start enjoying the many Latin socials, congresses and festivals around the world.
