What we’re about
Update July 7th 2024.
Hi all,
Just a wee message to say that as the group has been going for over a year and has cost over £330 in meetup site fees we are now asking members to contribute only £1 for any event you attend to go towards paying the site fees. The group belongs to us all and so I hope you will support the group to continue putting on a range of events for your enjoyment.
Thank you.
Hi there,
My name is Avril and I have lived in Edinburgh for around seventeen years now. It's a wonderful city to live in - I just love it.
This is a new group specifically created for People Of Colour to come together to share social experiences and events. I want to create a very friendly, supportive, inclusive, warm and welcoming group where members can develop the kinds of events and experiences that they would like to see happening. If anyone else would like to become another host for this group and lead socials/events then please let me know. You do not have to live in Edinburgh to join the group or attend events.
I have not seen any other groups on meetup just for People of Colour in Scotland `so I think this may be a first ! A place where we can come together with our shared experience and create new, interesting and fun experiences. All adults18 plus are welcome.
So come and get involved and enjoy helping to create a new fun and supportive community for People Of Colour. I am looking forward to meeting you and seeing what we can create together.
Now for the legal stuff. As all events/activities will be run by volunteers there is no public liability insurance of any kind attached to this group for any events/activities you may attend -therefore group volunteers/organisers will not be held legally liable for any loss, damage, mishaps, accidents or injury incurred during this groups activities/events. Everything in life has some kind of risk attached and it is therefore your own responsibility to make a judgement and to risk assess whether you are able safely to take part and complete any of the group events/activities and you will do so at your own risk.
If you encounter any difficulties during an event/activity you should advise the organiser or fellow group members as soon as possible to enable assistance to be arranged at an early stage.
By clicking 'yes' at the RSVP to any event/activity of this meetup group you are accepting these conditions in their entirety.
Also, please keep a look out for any emails from the event host for events/activities you have booked to attend as plans can change for many reasons and may also have important information in them.
I hope you will enjoy being part of this community.
Please note that if you RSVP to attend an event and do not attend that if you do this three times you will be removed as a member. This is because some events have limited places and if you do not turn up you are stopping someone else from having that place. All it takes is one click to change your RSVP from attend to not attending and it inconsiderate to other members and the host of the event not to turn up.

It’s no surprise that Handel’s Messiah continues to draw audiences back year after year. There is nothing quite like it.Although the Hallelujah chorus has become the work’s calling card, Handel wrote every note to impress and astound his listeners. Its choruses are as grand as anything Handel ever composed, the solo writing profoundly moving, the drama powerful and compelling. Performed ‘the Dunedin way’ as Handel would have first heard it, with a small orchestra, a team of twelve singers and soloists who step out from the chorus, there are few more uplifting ways to celebrate the festive season.

A little about the Diana Ross Story:
Prepare to be taken on a spellbinding journey visiting one of the greatest musical stories ever told. This show is a chronological history of hits from a career culminating in over 100 million record sales fronted by our international performers featuring Shakella Dedi as Diana in The Supremes and the multi award winning Tameka Jackson as Miss Diana Ross.
Founded in 1959, in Detroit Michigan, this young, girl group went on to be known as The Supremes, the most commercially successful of Motown’s acts and the most successful American vocal band, with 12 number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100.
Our first Act focuses on the rise of The Supremes under the expert management of Berry Gordy. This determined young, girl group, formerly known as The Primettes frequented the Hitsville USA recording studio with the aim of securing the contract with Gordy who suggested a range of new names for the band, with Florence Ballard choosing to re-brand them as The Supremes.
Prepare for the second Act as the astounding Miss Tameka Jackson takes the stage to thrill you with the solo career of Diana Ross. Get ready to dance and sing along to all the hits that define a powerful legacy in the music industry. Beautiful duets, high energy pop anthems and even a chance to meet ‘Diana’ make this show a sell out in all theatres.
